Hilary jenkinson designs and creates one off pieces for her own shop and Artforms Gallery , Carlow.This work is continually evolving as Hilary explores diferent forms, glazes and decoration techniques. These creations are ideal for an unusual one off gift for a wedding , corporate gift or special occassion.

Our outer galaxies have inspired my latest work. I have called this series Planet Pots. Beacause my work is wheel based and hand thrown I am always thinking in the round. Planets are perfectly formed orbs and Jupiter and Saturn have the added rings surrounding them. With my bowl forms I mounted them on foot rings at different angles playing with gravity and  added discs of clay with grooves of lines emphasising the rings of circles. The vase forms are loosely based on rockects with their tapering necks and discs of clay cut into different shapes and attached like wings.

I am using a deep puple glaze which gives different tones depending on the thickness of its application. The attached discs have been painted with copper lustre, which highlights the texture and is a dramatic contrast from the purple. I also use a semi matt pearl white glaze and a manganese glaze on the attachments wich has a metallic look to it.

I usually work on larger pieces and have found that working with smaller forms I can play around with them more. I enjoy the assembling of these pots and can experiment with lots of different options. They still function as pots but there is a fun element to them and I hope they appeal to a sense of humour.
